For the first time in history, experts across the spectrum agree that it’s possible to stop avoidable child and maternal deaths once and for all. Lawmakers can seize this incredible opportunity and keep the promise that’s been made to women and children around the globe.
Step 1

Ask Your Member of Congress to Support Women and Children Around the World

Unlike many global health issues, reducing maternal and child deaths is not a mystery. We have the power to solve it, and we have been making incredible progress, driven in large part by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and its global partners. This progress has saved the lives of countless mothers and children, kept families together, and has allowed communities to thrive and prosper. USAID depends on the support of the U.S. Congress, and we need to encourage lawmakers to seize this opportunity and support common-sense initiatives that are cost-effective and save lives.

STEP 2

Support the Reach Every Mother and Child Act of 2015 (S.1911 and H.R. 3706)

In 2014, the U.S. committed to saving 15 million children’s lives and 600,000 women’s lives by 2020 through evidence-based approaches such as prenatal care, proper management of labor and delivery, and simple treatments for childhood illness. Without requiring additional funding, the Reach Every Mother and Child Act of 2015 (S.1911 and H.R. 3706) holds the U.S. accountable for the promise it made to women and children around the globe. The Act enshrines into law important reforms needed to achieve its goal. Find out more about the REACH Act here.

Step 3

Host a Promise Party!

Bring your friends and family together to watch the video and decide on a promise you can make to women and children around the world. You decide – be creative! Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, send photos of special moms or children in your life to your Member of Congress and ask them to help, schedule a meeting in their local office, or host a fundraiser for a nonprofit saving lives around the world. Big or small, your promise will make a difference.
